Brows : Go Back to Basics

Everyone is going mad about the 'slugs-disguised-as-eyebrows' look and I have got to admit I am not a big fan, although  it is one step forward from the pencil line that used to be the big craze.

Not everyone suits having brows like Cara Delvigne or having the 'scouse-brow' and the reason for that is naturally we all have different shaped eyebrows! So basically, I am going to give my lovely readers a few tips!

Threading is the way to go!

I have always found that getting my eyebrows threaded has always given me a more defined shape than waxing does. Waxing can also leave your eyebrows a little too far apart (believe me, threading is worth the pain).

Try a more natural look!

A couple of days ago, I went to my threading appointment and asked for a natural look purely because I felt it was the safer option as I wouldn't be worrying about my eyebrows looking too thin. However, I do understand if you want a more defined shape because it is more noticeable.

Don't be stupid!

Okay, that doesn't seem like a great subheading but it gets my message across. As most of my readers are teenagers I probably think most of you have known or know a girl who has shaved her eyebrows and then coloured them in. And if you don't then you are very lucky.  I remember last year quite a few girls at my school did this and after they had coloured them in jet black (even if they were blonde) that sometimes their eyebrows smudged. THIS IS A BIG NO NO!

Try colouring them in!

Colouring your eyebrows in does make them appear bolder and they do look a lot better. I use Bobbi Brown brow kit and it is a bit more expensive but it will last you a long time. As I prefer to look natural I keep it quite subtle but if you feel like going thicker go ahead.

Do you have any more tips? Let me know in the comments!

Pretty for Prom #2

Before I start , I would like to say that I am so happy with how many lovely comments there were on the first of my pretty for prom series!

Anyhoo, I thought that this next post could feature around my prom make-up, so I guess this is my first 'how-to' post.

Eyes

Step 1

Apply Maui Wowie eyeshadow from the Urban Decay eyeshadow up to your eyebrow as a base.

Step 2

Next apply Smog from Urban Decay eyeshadow as a dark coloured shadow and put over your lid and into your crease. To give a slight smoky eye effect, apply a bit of oil slick (also from Urban Decay eyeshadow) onto the outer corners of the eye.

Step 3

Apply Bobbi Brown Gel eyeliner with brush in soft sweeping strokes.

Step 4

Use Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal eyeliner pencil along your waterline.

Eyebrows

I used Bobbi Brown brow kit to help my brows look bolder. Included in this kit is a mini eye brow brush and I used this to apply the mahogany eye/brow shadow to my eyebrows.

Lips

I  used Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss Crystal which is shown below and is perfect for the prom/ball look.

Foundation

I used a bareMinerals flawless application brush for all of the steps below...

Step 1

Before applying bareMinerals Prime Time foundation primer, make sure your face is clean and moisturised.

Step 2

Apply bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation (Golden Tan) using the well-know bareMinerals method : swirl, tap and buff.

Step 3

Apply bareMinerals warmth which is basically a bronzer. To do this move your brush like you are drawing the number 3 on both sides of your face so from the middle of your forehead to your nose and then in a curve motion down to your chin. This covers the high points of your face.

Step 4

Next apply the bareMinerals mineral veil to give a flawless complexion. Again use the swirl, tap and buff method.

Step 5

Finally, apply MAC sunbasque blush. Apply the blush to the centre of the apple on one side of your face, blending the colour along your cheekbone.

That is my how to : prom make-up done. Hope you enjoyed it! :)

Just last weekend I attended a traditional Indian wedding  My family and I had henna tattoos done for the wedding and although I prefer henna to be darker than it was, I have wrote this post to show the beautiful patterns that I had.

Liebster Award

Thanks to Jenny at beauty R&R I have been nominated for the Liebster Award. I haven't even been writing my blog for long and so to be tagged was really amazing for me.

The rules

1) You must link the blogger who nominated you
2) You must answer 10 questions given to you by your nominee
3) You must choose 10 bloggers (who have less than 200 followers) to be nominated for the awards
4) You must then come up with 10 questions you would like your nominees to answer
5) Once you have done this, you must go to their blogs and let them know you nominated them

My answers

  1. Why did you start your blog? I started my blog purely because I already had a passion for fashion and wanted to meet new people and become a part of the blogging community.
  2. What is your favourite thing about yourself? My smile because I think that everyone always looks better with a smile on their face. I mean, who can be mad at someone with a cute smile! :)
  3. What is your current favourite fragrance? Anything I can get my hands on! Well, I'm not much of a fragrance fanatic but I mainly use Britney Spear's fragrance.
  4. What is your favourite blush? I don't tend to wear make-up often and when I do it is very minimal so I normally just use 'MAC sunbasque' for a very subtle rose cheek.
  5. Who is your style icon? Jourdan Dunn, duh!
  6. Where is your favourite place to shop? Overall I would say Zara but it depends because on one shopping day trip I may be all about forever 21 and then the next day I will be mad about New Look.
  7. What's your go-to mascara? Rimmel Glam Eyes, it is so good. You hardly need to put any on to give your eyelashes volume.
  8. What's one piece of advice that you would give to your younger self? Umm...I'm hardly near my wealth of wisdom just yet but I would say not to care too much about what others think of you.
  9. What's one of your must-have skincare products? Everything and anything by neutrogena.
  10. What decade/era's fashion inspires you most? I'm going to be really boring here and admit I can't tell the difference between fashion in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Sorry!
Now here are the bloggers I recognise for the Liebster award...
These are the questions that I would like to ask the bloggers I've tagged...
  1. Why did you start your blog?
  2. Who is your make-up inspiration?
  3. What is your favourite accessory piece right now?
  4. Chocolate or vanilla or strawberry?
  5. Lipstick or lipgloss?
  6. What is your favourite thing about yourself?
  7. What is your go-to mascara?
  8. Which beauty icon would you like to be for a day?
  9. Name 3 beauty items you could not live without?
  10. What is your favourite everyday hairstyle?

I do like to be beside the seaside

Holiday fashion is oh-so wonderful that I believed it was essential for me to go on holiday to write this post...honestly it was purely for research. After coming back from holiday I think it would be best for me to explain the holiday dos and don'ts!

Do try your best to look great  (although I know you always do! Yes I'm talking to you. The one looking at the screen right now in your amazing outfit.)

Don't try too hard and turn up to your evening meal in killer heels and a bouffant as high as the ceiling.

Do relax like you've never relaxed before.

Don't forget your surroundings and turn up to your evening meal in your bikini and a see-through sarong.

Do buy pretty costumes that you can swim gracefully in when in the sea.

Don't buy a pretty costume which is two sizes too small...not a pretty sight.

Do ignore all these dos and don'ts because my holidays abroad would not be the same without these fashion mishaps.

Don't take any of these points to heart unless your an old sweaty man planning to holiday in unbearable heat!

Watching paint dry

We've all been through that horrendous period of waiting for our nails to dry. Blowing your nails frantically before you take part in an activity, not touching anything in case you ruin a nail and -the worst of all- accidentally forgetting you have painted your nails

But stop right there, Rosie Apple is here to help!

Okay, I'll stop with the cheesy introduction but I seriously do know a simple way to speed up the waiting game. It's pretty simple, all you need is running water.

After 3 minutes of painting your fingernails run them under cold water and voila you have sped up the process!
